State of the GSCC - October & November
As we close out the fall months and get ready for the final stretch of 2025, I want to take a moment to share a clear, honest, and encouraging update about where we are as an organization. A lot has happened across October, and November — some visible, some behind the scenes — and every bit of it connects back to the work that each of you do every single day.
The Leadership Team and Directors have been working hard on crafting department strategies for next year that paint an exciting picture of where we want to go as an organization. I can’t wait for them to share their plans with all of you! We will share a bit more about the plans for 2026 at the Christmas Party on December 19th and at our all-staff Pep Rally on January 7th.
Meanwhile…this update is a snapshot of our progress over the last couple months, our challenges, and a sneak peek of the direction we're headed together.
Our Team Is Growing Stronger and More Supported!
Over the past few months, we've made major steps forward with staffing — especially in roles that support your daily work and shape how effective our health centers can be.
Key team updates:
All RN Care Managers are now hired, with our final RNCM, Lauren Adams, is starting December 1st. Woohoo!!
All Site Operations Directors are now in place, giving each clinic consistent leadership support throughout the day. Welcome, Nashay, Clayton and Layni!
We added a Facilities Director, Health Center Performance (HCP) Director, Executive Assistant, and Administrative Assistant. Welcome, Matt! (The health centers are looking better than they have in ages!) Steven Wilson, our new HCP Director will join us December 1st and Savannah Crittendon and Jessica Molina are here and getting acclimated to their new roles.
We continue actively recruiting LPNs and MAs, which is a challenge locally, statewide and nationally. If you know of any great candidates, send them Tamika’s way!
Why this matters
For the first time in a long time, we finally have the structure and leadership layers we need to stabilize our care connection model, support our teams, and move toward a more consistent, predictable day-to-day experience for staff and patients. You will continue to feel the impact of this in communication, maintenance, care team support, and day-to-day problem-solving…and ultimately in patient connection.
Our Buildings Are Improving in Ways That Actually Matter
Fall has been a season of repairs, updates, and construction across multiple sites — and while that comes with some noise and sticky chair wheels, the results are worth it.
Completed this fall:
New flooring in the lobby at 12th Street
New carpet at Walnut
Redesigned care team pods
Parking lots repaired and restriped across locations
Why this matters
These upgrades are not cosmetic — they directly support better flow, better teamwork, and a better experience for patients and staff.
Patient Care: Steady, Strong, and Reflective of Your Work
Even with all the internal improvements underway, patient demand has stayed stable.
Highlights from the fall:
Visits increased from September to October
Pharmacy remained strong, even with a slight dip in scripts
Pharmacy capture rate held steady around 45–46% (GOAL: >50%)
Organization-wide patient satisfaction remained around 85% (GOAL: >90%)
Walnut led with 92%, while 12th remains an area we’re focused on improving
What patients consistently say:
The strongest theme in our surveys this fall — and every month — is YOU. Your teamwork, your kindness, your patience, and your professionalism show up in the comments over and over again. When patients say they feel “welcomed,” “safe,” “heard,” and “cared for,” they are talking about the work you do every day. Thank you for making the effort to connect with the patients and to help them through their visit with us.
Quality of Care: Solid and Improving
We continue to perform well on our quality measures:
We met 14 out of 19 UDS goals, including diabetes care, depression screening, and breast cancer screening.
Hypertension control slipped slightly, and the care team has already launched an improvement project to strengthen this measure.
We had no formal grievances this period.
Risk & Compliance Work This Fall
Updated the QI/QA Policy
Updated the Business Continuity Plan
Updated the IT Disaster Recovery Plan
Conducted ongoing risk assessments, including work around opioid prescribing
Why this matters
Our community relies on us to provide safe, reliable care — and our performance continues to show that we are delivering exactly that.
Financial Health: Strong Month, Smart Planning
October was one of our strongest financial months of the year. We are financially healthy. At the same time, we continue working on our cash on hand, which remains below our long-term goal of 90 days. This is normal for an organization that has grown as quickly as ours and is now stabilizing staffing and operations. We are managing carefully, watching trends closely, and planning ahead for 2026 — especially with potential 340B changes on the horizon.
The takeaway: We are stable, steady, and strategic. Healthcare is a challenging industry both operationally and financially, but we are committed to delivering high-quality care to our patients because they are worth the effort. <3
What’s Changing Around Us — and Why It Matters
Healthcare is shifting in ways that affect every clinic in the country. We are preparing for:
Rising costs in supplies, health benefits and staffing
Limited availability of LPNs and MAs
340B and pharmacy reimbursement pressures
Patients expecting faster scheduling and digital tools
Aging buildings needing infrastructure upgrades
Less-than-fair and adequate insurance reimbursements
None of this should scare us though. These are realities we are facing together — with a stronger organizational structure and clearer strategy than ever before.
What We Are Focused on for 2026… 2026 is going to be a big year of alignment, connection, and systems strengthening.
Our focus will be on:
The Care Connection Model: Bringing more consistency to how we connect, communicate, and support patients in their health goals.
Improving Access & Flow: Better scheduling, more reliable processes, and more clarity across teams.
Strengthening Our Culture: Connection + Ownership evident in everything we do.
Better Tools and Support for Staff: Training, communication, leadership development, and workflow improvements.
Facility Upgrades: Continuing to make our spaces easier to work in and easier for patients to navigate.
Financial Stability: Smart planning, operational efficiency, and steady progress toward our goals.
Every one of these areas includes your work, your ideas, and your connection to our patients.
Your Part in This Story
Every role — from scheduling and front desk to medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, lab, care management, billing, IT, facilities, and administration — is part of who we are and where we’re going. You help patients feel…
Safe
Seen
Listened to
Supported
Hopeful
That is the heart of GSCC. And that is why this work matters.
Closing Thoughts…
We are ending the fall season with momentum, stability, and a clear direction. We’ve made real progress this year — and we have real work ahead of us — but we also have a strong foundation, the right people, and a shared mission and a vision to show the world what care should feel like. Thank you for caring deeply about our patients and about one another. Thank you for staying committed, flexible, and connected during this season of growth.
We are building something meaningful here — together.
Here’s to a strong finish to 2025 and an even better 2026.
You are so loved,
Teresa <3
